The all-inclusive fee for this 16-day program bundles major costs including hotel nights, transportation to and from the hospital, meals except for dinners on volunteering days, transportation while touring in an air-conditioned bus, program expenses, entrance fees, private tour guide, tours, lectures, and gratuities.

For double occupancy at all hotels and daily transportation to Reuth hospital on volunteering days, the fee is $3,930. An additional $1,090 is required for single hotel occupancy.

All fees are based on the complete 16-day program, a minimum group size of 3 volunteers, and are subject to adjustment for fewer participants and/or a change in hospital policy.

Double occupancy on the hospital campus may occasionally become possible instead of hotel accommodations. If this happens, it will be offered to those who registered first. When available, double occupancy, includes touring is $2,580.  Extra cost for single hotel room during touring is $430.

This option is unlikely to be available until after the final trip payment is due. If on-campus housing is offered, volunteers choosing it will be reimbursed for any unused hotel and transportation costs.

As a non-profit organization, VFI is committed to offering  premium volun-touring experiences at the lowest possible price.  Due to fluctuations in the dollar-shekel exchange rate and other economic factors, it may be necessary to occasionally increase trip fees above those published at the time of your deposit.  We will make every attempt to ensure that fee increases are minimal and infrequent.

How to Register for the Rehab Hospital Program

To reserve your space in a program, submit a completed application which includes making a $500 refundable deposit. This deposit will be applied toward the final cost. VFI is a 501(c)3 non-profit so part of your payment may be tax-deductible. Please consult your financial advisor.

  • Passport: Traveling in Israel requires a passport that must be valid for at least 6 months AFTER your arrival date
  • NEW VISA Requirement: All non-Israeli visitors to Israel must have a valid visa or ETA-IL (Electronic Travel Authorization) before they start their trip. The ETA-IL is valid for two years and multiple trips of 90 days or less. The cost is 25 NIS (about $7.00) per person and obtained by online application at: https://israel-entry.piba.gov.il/

VFI requires individual medical coverage while in Israel. Medicare generally does not cover medical care outside the U.S., so you should confirm with your insurer whether your policy includes coverage for treatment in Israel. VFI strongly recommends obtaining trip cancellation insurance which may also include medical coverage*.

Male volunteers in the REHAB HOSPITAL PROGRAM are required to provide a police or state-issued background check that goes by different names depending on which US state the volunteer resides in (e.g. “absence of sexual offenses”, “child-abuse clearance”, “certificate of conduct”).

Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Group size is limited, and a waitlist is maintained for fully subscribed programs.

Reuth Rehabilitation Hospital

The Reuth Tel Aviv Medical Center is one of the largest and leading organizations in health, welfare and geriatrics in Israel.  Their main campus, located in Tel Aviv at Sderot HaHayil 2, concentrates on two key fields:

The Health and Rehabilitation Field

Combining rehabilitation and geriatric services, the hospital also hosts a diverse mix of community clinics – a pain institute, eating disorder treatment institute, sexual rehabilitation [clinic], rehabilitative alternative medicine clinic, etc.

The Senior Citizens Field

Maintaining several assisted living facilities provides public community housing, offers a warm home and community services to underprivileged senior citizens, most of whom are Holocaust survivors or new immigrants. Also operates a senior citizens’ community center.

The ‘Reuth spirit’ is driven by a spirit of acceptance, compassion and respect for each individual. Many find volunteering here as a pleasant, educational and life-enriching experience.

Volunteers at Reuth are a key part of the hospital, assisting medical staff and patients in their regular activities. The volunteer position focuses on working with and transporting patients, but this may vary from volunteer to volunteer depending on the volunteer’s previous expertise and on the center’s immediate needs. Examples of volunteer tasks include:

  • Taking patients to and from various treatments within the hospital
  • Taking patients on a walk or engaging them in conversation
  • Help at the pharmacy
  • Assisting with occupational therapy or physical therapy
  • Help in the children’s department
  • Assisting with food preparation
  • Helping prepare for holidays and special events in the departments

Volunteers should also feel free to ask for additional tasks
