What Are The Activities?
VFI Feed the Soldiers is a 9-day program comprised of 5 days volunteering in uniform and 4 days touring or travel. The program begins on a Friday and ends on a Saturday. This program has an upper age limit for participation of 79 years old, and the level of physical activities is moderate.
This program provides a comprehensive learning and IDF experience. Learn food preparation, cooking, and serving using state-of-the-art mobile kitchens. Travel daily to different army bases, meeting new faces and enjoy serving traditional meals to IDF soldiers. Reside on an IDF base at the new Jerusalem training center for 5 nights.
What is the Mission?
“Make A Soldier Smile”: What a heartwarming initiative! A unique opportunity to connect face-to-face with Israeli soldiers. Depart daily from the Jerusalem base stopping at different IDF bases. The mission: work with experienced professionals to set up “pop-up” kitchens in the field to prepare and serve delicious hot meals. Imagine cooking fresh falafel, burgers, schnitzels, shawarma, and BBQs in mobile kitchens exclusively for IDF soldiers—what an adventure!

This program isn’t just about food—it’s about connecting, showing gratitude, immersion, and creating lasting memories.
Building bonds of friendship between themselves, the IDF, and Israel. It’s a way to say “Thank you for your service” to the brave soldiers who protect the land and its people.
The volunteer recognition ceremony honors volunteers with a certificate honoring your efforts. Depart with memories, friendships, and the satisfaction of making IDF soldiers smile.

Travel Documents
- Passport: Traveling in Israel requires a passport that must be valid for at least 6 months AFTER your arrival date
- NEW VISA Requirement: All non-Israeli visitors to Israel must have a valid visa or ETA-IL (Electronic Travel Authorization) before they start their trip. The ETA-IL is valid for two years and multiple trips of 90 days or less. The cost is 25 NIS (about $7.00) per person and obtained by online application at: https://israel-entry.piba.gov.il/
Insurance
VFI requires individual medical coverage while in Israel. Program Testimonials
Being in Israel with VFI to Feed the Soldiers was incredibly fulfilling. Having the opportunity to give back to the soldiers for all they do for Israel and the rest of the world was truly an honor.
Seeing the Nova site and Hostage Square were emotional experiences that are hard to put into words, but give you an understanding of what Israelis live with on a daily basis. The resilience and strength of the Israeli people is inspiring. They are full of life and hope and you can’t help but feel that from them.

Now that my trip is coming to an end, I have a little time to reflect on the past two weeks. For most Americans, Israel is perceived as a country at war, defined by soldiers and guns. However, it is so much more than that.
IWhen we first arrived, our group of volunteers from the USA, Canada, the UK, and Europe had our own preconceived notions shaped by the news or previous trips. However, the image of Israeli soldiers was far from what we had seen in reports. These were kids, often younger than our own children, fighting not just for themselves, but for the entire Jewish world. Instead of attending fraternity parties and classes, they were learning the art of war. Most had chosen to be in the fight. We met many lone soldiers who had left their families behind in their birth countries due to a higher calling. These soldiers sometimes needed a hug, a thank you from someone speaking their native language, or a quick reminder of the homes they left behind.”
The facilities provided by EVP were absolutely first-rate. In our shared room, we had our own private bathroom, television, and even a hair dryer. The rooms were arranged in a semi-circle around a lovely area with chairs and tables for talking and reminiscing. EVP also provided a fully stocked clubhouse with drinks, snacks, and a washing machine for our use as needed. We used the room for many talks and to decompress after a long day.
Wearing the Israeli army uniform was a source of great pride for all of us. We knew we were not soldiers, but we still had something to contribute to the war effort. The food we provided was a welcome change from the usual simple meals the army offers and was definitely appreciated. My main job was kitchen prep, usually cutting vegetables or assembling schnitzel sandwiches or falafel. The food highlight of the week was definitely the schnitzel aleph. The soldiers thanked us as if we had served them a Michelin star meal. Whenever they thanked us, I made a point of thanking them, telling them that they are the real heroes, not us.”
These kids carry an immense weight on their shoulders, bearing the responsibility of the world, the Jewish people, and the nation of Israel. It’s a heavy burden for anyone, let alone an 18-year-old.
